PRIVACY
What this site collects
Last updated 17 October 2026
This notice covers philanthropel.com and the Penname app. It is written to match what they actually do, rather than to cover every eventuality, and it is short because neither does much with your data.
Who we are
Philanthropel Limited builds AI products for philanthropy, fundraising and social impact. Registered in Scotland, company number SC895988. We decide how the information described here is used, which makes us the data controller for it.
You can reach us at info@philanthropel.com. That is the fastest route to a person for anything on this page, including a request to see or delete what we hold.
Measurement
We want to know which pages are read and whether the site is fast. Two things measure that, and they behave differently.
Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights run for everyone. They set no cookies and store no identifier that could be traced back to you. They record the page visited, the site you came from, an approximate country, and how quickly pages loaded. There is no profile behind it, and nothing to opt out of, because there is nothing identifying you.
Google Analytics runs only if you accept it. It does set cookies, so nothing from Google is loaded and no request is sent to Google until you press Accept on the banner. If you decline, Google is never contacted at all. Advertising and personalisation features are switched off permanently, whatever you choose, and IP addresses are anonymised.
Your answer to the banner is stored in your own browser, under philanthropel.consent.v1. It never leaves your device. To change your mind, clear your browsing data for this site and the banner will ask again.
When you get in touch
Every contact link on this site opens your own email programme. If you write to us, we hold your message and address for as long as it takes to answer you and to keep a record of the conversation. Our email runs on Google Workspace. We do not add you to any mailing list, because we do not have one.
Applying to Catalyst
The Catalyst application form is a separate service hosted at catalyst-form-rho.vercel.app. We receive what you submit and use it to consider your application. It is not used for anything else, and it is not shared.
Applying to the Fellowship
The Fellowship application form is a separate service hosted at catalyst-form-rho.vercel.app/fellowship. We use what you submit only to consider your application and to reply to you. It is not shared, and it is not used for anything else.
Your application is stored in a Google Sheet in our Google Workspace, where our team reviews it, and in a database hosted by Supabase. If you choose to speak an answer rather than type it, the recording is sent to Groq to be transcribed and the text to Anthropic to tidy it up. We keep the written answer you submit, not the recording.
The Penname app
Penname, our app for iPhone, iPad and Mac, collects nothing. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and it makes no network connections. Nothing you put into it is sent to us or to anyone else.
Your documents stay on your device. Text you paste or open is processed in the app’s memory on your device and is not stored by the app. Closing the app clears it.
Key files. The key file that restores the real details is encrypted on your device with a passphrase you choose, using AES-256, and is saved only where you choose to save it. We never receive the key file or the passphrase, and we cannot recover either.
The Activity log. The app keeps a private log on your device of what you protected and restored: the document name, the date, and how many details were replaced. It never records the details themselves. The log is encrypted on the device, and you can export it or erase it at any time from the Activity tab.
What you share is your choice. The only thing that leaves your device is what you choose to copy, share or save, normally the safe copy you paste into an AI assistant. That assistant’s own privacy policy applies to what you paste into it.
Penname is a workplace tool and is not directed at children. Help with the app is on the support page.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, their servers keep short-lived technical logs that include IP addresses, so the service can be operated and defended against abuse.
What we never do
We do not sell your data. We do not share it for advertising. We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other websites. There are no accounts on this site and no payments taken through it.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to info@philanthropel.com and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk. We would rather you told us first, so we can put it right.
Changes
If we change what the site or the app collects, we will change this page and the date at the top of it.
